St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Route 5, Enfield, CT
This marks the 20th year that the Worcester Wreath company has
donated wreaths for the headstones of veterans buried at Arlington
National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Permission has finally been
granted for all 330,000 graves to be covered.
Locally, this ceremony started in 2008 and is sponsored by several organizations,
including the Penelope Terry Abbey Chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, the Enfield Girl Scouts of America, the Enfield
Boy Scouts of America, the Enfield Veterans Council, the
Enfield Hooah Organization, and the Woman's Club of Enfield.
This is a very special ceremony to remember the fallen, honor those
who serve, and teach our children the value of freedom. The
Worcester Wreath Company donates the seven ceremonial wreaths that
will be placed near the Veterans Memorial Markers in the cemetery.
Each wreath represents a branch of military service--the Army, Navy,
Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and POW/MIA service
men and women.
The week before the ceremony, a week-long "Veterans Parade" from
Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery takes place.
This parade includes a convoy of trucks carrying the wreaths
escorted by police and Patriot Guard Riders. Along the route,
ceremonies are held at various locations.
We are proud to announce that this year Enfield will be one of only
two stops in our state! The caravan will visit Parkman Elementary
School on Weymouth Road. The caravan ceremony will start at
9:30 a.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.
For more information on the wreaths and the ceremony, please visit the Enfield Hooah Organization or email our chapter regent.
Please remember, if you wish for your wreath to go to the
St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Enfield, you MUST indicate the
cemetery's code: CTSPCE
The public is welcome to attend the ceremony without participating
in the fund-raising efforts.
